Artist Information

Baritone Shea Owens brings a range of international experience to his perofrmance with the Choir. He has been recently a member of the ensemble at Theater St. Gallen in Switzerland, at which his roles included Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Marcello in La bohème, Valentin in Faust, and Alvaro in Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas, among others.

On the concert stage he has sung Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and Cimarosa’s Il maestro di cappella with the Sinfonieorchester St. Gallen. He sang Colonel Ricci in Sondheim’s Passion at the Théâtre du Chátelet and joined the orchestra of the Grand Théatre de Genève in concerts of popular repertoire.

Audiences in Utah have recently enjoyed Mr. Owens in the title role of Mendelssohn’s Elijah, performed with the choirs of Brigham Young University at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. This season he ralso played the role of Samuel in The Pirates of Penzance.

In addition to his traditional operatic and concert work, he especially enjoys the challenge and novelty of interpreting the works of contemporary composers. Notably, he has sung Charlie in Jake Heggie’s Three Decembers alongside legendary mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade.

As a complement to his professional career, Mr. Owens recently joined the faculty at BYU-Provo as Director of Opera in the School of Music. A native of Arizona, he is married to highly regarded soprano Madison Leonard, and they are the parents of a new baby boy.
