Choir on Tour Wall Of Sound

Mack Wilberg describes membership in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir as being on a fast-moving train that never lets off its passengers.  Going on tour this week is the express train!

The six-concert tour in nine days will cross America’s heartland beginning June 12 in Columbus, Ohio where the Choir has performed twice—1958 and 1992.  The 310 singers joined by 62 members of the Orchestra then will take their varied repertoire of music including classics, hymns, spirituals, ethnic to Americana favorites in a swing through Indianapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison and finally Minneapolis.

“It’s one thing to hear the Choir on television and radio and CD recordings,” choir music director Mack Wilberg explains, “and it’s a totally different experience to hear the Choir live.  It’s what you might call a ‘wall of sound.’”

This tech-savvy Choir will be offering tour updates on social media from contests on Facebook and Twitter to daily blog postings on the Choir’s new, upscale website just posted the first of June.  General Manager of the Choir Scott Barrick explains that the website is for fans everywhere who love the Choir.  “A woman I met on tour in the Southern United States said, ‘Look, honey, when it comes to my religion, I’m Episcopalian through and through, but when it comes to my music, I’m all Mormon Tabernacle Choir.”
