20 Soul-Stirring General Conference Songs
Twice a year in April and October, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holds its general conference to address spiritual topics. Although the conferences take place in Salt Lake City, Utah, and are attended by Church members, community representatives, and other guests, people around the world have the ability to watch the conference sessions online or via satellite.
Topics for the conference are not assigned, but the talks tend to follow gospel principles and issues related to the present day. Just as the topics for talks aren’t assigned, the music is chosen much the same way. Mack Wilberg, Ryan Murphy, and the Choir staff have often been asked if a hymn or song was specifically planned to follow a talk, but sometimes it’s by coincidence, sometimes by inspiration.
The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square has been providing music for general conference since shortly after pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, when a small choir was formed under the direction of Church President Brigham Young.
Here are 20 hymns and songs from general conference that are among the highest viewed on YouTube. Each one expresses its own unique spirit through its melody and gospel-centered lyrics.
