He Is Risen: A Special Easter Celebration with The Tabernacle Choir
The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square is one of the most recognized choirs in the world. Known for its stunning performances and breathtaking arrangements, the Choir has been delighting audiences for over 150 years. As we prepare to celebrate the Resurrection of our Savior in the coming Easter season, we invite you to stream The Tabernacle Choir’s He Is Risen: A Special Easter Celebration, which was first performed in 2019 and streamed again in 2021.
He Is Risen: A Special Easter Celebration is a concert that celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is a powerful and moving piece that speaks to the hearts of Christians around the world. The Choir’s rendition of the songs and the music as a whole are simply stunning. The arrangements are complex yet beautifully executed, with every voice in the Choir working in harmony.
Beginning with Mack Wilberg’s arrangement of “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” and “That Easter Day with Joy Was Bright,” the program moves to the hymn “How Great the Wisdom and the Love.” Then young adults from Africa, Latin America, the Philippines, and the United States give readings from the New Testament accounts of the Resurrection. One young man speaks in American Sign Language with a voice interpreter. The music celebrates the Savior’s triumphant Resurrection with “Unfold, Ye Portals” from Gounod’s The Redemption and Ryan Murphy’s arrangement of “In the Garden,” followed by Wilberg’s arrangement of the affirming song “He Is Risen.”
The program next explores the promise of the Resurrection with former Tabernacle organist Robert Cundick’s “And What Is It We Shall Hope For?” from The Redeemer and Wilberg’s “Tree of Life,” the title track from a 2018 album by the Choir and Orchestra. The concert ends with Wilberg’s arrangement of “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling” from the Choir and Orchestra’s album Let Us All Press On and “Worthy Is the Lamb That Was Slain” from Handel’s Messiah as the benediction.
The powerful musical renditions and beautiful arrangements make this concert one of a kind, but what truly sets this performance apart is the way it captures the spirit of the Easter season. It is a performance of hope and joy, a celebration of the ultimate triumph of life over death, filling viewers with a sense of awe and wonder.
He Is Risen: A Special Easter Celebration is a testament to music’s power to move us and touch our souls. In a world that is often dark and troubling, performances like this one are a beacon of hope.
