Available! Tickets for Orchestra and Chorale Concert
Notice: The Orchestra and Temple Square Concert has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. This change is to be consistent with the direction provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to temporarily postpone large public gatherings in areas challenged by the COVID-19 virus.
The Orchestra at Temple Square and Temple Square Chorale will join their musical talents for this year’s annual spring concert in the Salt Lake Tabernacle on Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 21, 2020, at 7:30 p.m. The evening performances will be under the baton of Ryan Murphy, associate music director of The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square and conductor of the Temple Square Chorale.
The Orchestra will open the concert with Folk Songs of the Four Seasons by English composer Ralph Vaughn Williams, which takes the audience on an engaging journey through the year from spring to winter. The concert will continue with “Let the People Praise Thee, O God,” an anthem written by William Matthias for the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana. Also included in the program is the Utah premiere of Life Songs, two new pieces for choir and orchestra written by Ryan Murphy, originally commissioned by the Dallas Symphony Chorus. The Choir and Orchestra concert will conclude with Gloria, one of the most celebrated works by French composer Francis Poulenc, with Melissa Heath as the featured soprano soloist.

The Orchestra at Temple Square is an all-volunteer musical organization formed at the direction of Gordon B. Hinckley, then president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as part of changes in 1999 to The Tabernacle Choir organization. Its charter is to accompany the musical ensembles of The Tabernacle Choir organization and to perform in concerts of its own.
The Temple Square Chorale was also created in 1999 and serves as a training ensemble for new members of The Tabernacle Choir. It is comprised of new members completing their audition process as well as those members who were new to the Choir the previous year plus additional Choir members.
