British Actor to Narrate Choir’s Christmas Concert
If you think you recognize Hercule Poirot, Agatha Christie’s famous Belgian sleuth, narrating the Tabernacle Choir’s Christmas concert in 2022, you would be right. Sir David Suchet, one of England’s eminent stage, screen, and television actors, best known for his role as Poirot, will be on the Conference Center stage with Broadway singer, actor, and "Disney Legend" Lea Salonga and The Tabernacle Choir for the annual much-celebrated event, December 15-18, 2022 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for the event have been distributed.
Suchet played the engaging, suave, precise Hercule Poirot in 70 episodes for over 24 years. He is known for his extensive study of his character and noted in his book, Poirot and Me, “There is a moment . . . when I am not truly sure who I am. Am I an actor, who has played the role of Poirot for a quarter of a century in seventy television films, or have I actually become this little man that the world, and I, love so much? Where do I stop, and where does he begin?”1
Sir David Suchet's acting career began at 16 when he became a member of the National Youth Theater. He studied for three years at the London academy of Music and Dramatic Art and began doing repertory work. In 1973 he became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company where he is, today, an associate artist. He is also a member of the Fight Directors Guild of Great Britain.
Suchet has received many awards and nominations for his decades of work on stage. He has played characters such as Iago in Othello, Shylock in The Merchant of Venice, Caliban in The Tempest, Bolingbroke in Richard II, and Angelo in Measure for Measure. All were nominated for Olivier Best Actor Awards. He has performed on the West End and Broadway in classic roles such as George in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf? composer Salieri in Amadeus, and James Tyrone in Long Day’s Journey into Night. His masterworks in television on BBC and American networks include portrayals of historical, biblical, and fictional figures like Cardinal Wolsey in Henry VIII and Aaron in Moses. He is a familiar performer at Regional Theatres and festivals from Liverpool to Chichester has appeared in many British and American films and has toured across the globe.
He also has been active in his nation as the chairman of the River Thames Alliance promoting what he calls this “quintessentially English River . . . one of England’s greatest assets.”2
In 2011 Queen Elizabeth awarded him Commander of the Order of the British Empire and in 2020 Knight Bachelor of the Order of the British Empire for his services to drama and charity.
