Fiddler on the Roof opened on Broadway in 1964. The musical dominated the 1965 Tony Awards® when it won 8 awards, including Best Musical. The original production would go on to run for a record-setting 3,242 performances and remains one of the longest-running musicals on Broadway.

Since the original run, Fiddler on the Roof has returned to Broadway on various occasions, was made into a movie, and is frequently performed by local school and community theaters.

The musical is filled songs that have gained mainstream popularity, including “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Tradition,” and “Sunrise, Sunset.” “Sunrise, Sunset,” which is performed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in the video above, was also included in the soundtrack of Disney’s Lion King 1 1/2 (aka Lion King 3) animated film in 2003.
