Choir Singing at Home in “Music for a Summer Evening”
Twelve days on tour and the Choir is still singing. Choir members don’t get much of a break when they get home with Tuesday and Thursday rehearsals, Sunday morning Music & the Spoken Word broadcast and then the Pioneer Concert featuring award-winning Broadway star Laura Osnes. The concert, “Music for a Summer Evening” is July 17 and 18 at 8 p.m. at the Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City.
Tickets are still available at lds.org/events, by calling 801-570-0080 or at the Conference Center ticket office. Admission to this event is limited to age 8 and older. Patrons are invited to standby for last minute seating each evening. The standby line will form at the north gate on Temple Square.
It won’t be the first “moment” for Osnes with the Choir live. She attended the July 2 concert of the Choir at Carnegie Hall. Also at the concert were former Choir concert guests and Broadway stars Brian Stokes Mitchell who performed with the Choir at the 2009 Christmas concert and Santino Fontana, 2013 Christmas Concert and Pioneer Concert guest artist. Santino was also the guest conductor for “This Land is Your Land.” Other familiar faces at the concert were members of the troupe of Sesame Street artists who performed at the 2014 Christmas concert.
Osnes received a Drama Desk Award for "Cinderella," and another Tony nomination for her work in "Bonnie and Clyde" in 2012. She has performed with the New York Philharmonic and New York Pops, has appeared on several cast recordings and has made two solo albums, "Dream a Little Dream: Live at the Café Carlyle," and "If I Tell You: The Songs of Maury Yeston."
