Enjoy Choir Christmas Video "Silent Night"
Enjoy The Tabernacle Choir’s newest music video, “Silent Night,” just released for the 2018 Christmas season. The video can be found both on the Choir’s website under its “Watch and Listen” Christmas Videos section and on its YouTube channel at tabchoir.org/silentnight.
This inspiring video, set to Mack Wilberg’s arrangement of “Silent Night” depicts the experience of a police officer, played by actor Kevin Sorbo, as he joins with people of diverse backgrounds to help a young couple with the unexpected birth of their child—in an unfamiliar setting. This experience touches the officer’s heart and he is able to find peace and reconciliation in his own life. The story is symbolic of the Nativity, reminding us of the emotional and healing influence contained in the message of the beloved Christmas carol—that the Son of God, Jesus Christ, was born with “redeeming grace” for all mankind.
“Silent Night” has become one of the most famous Christmas carols since it was first performed in Austria in 1818. This beautiful Mack Wilberg arrangement of this carol was commissioned by Pete and Judy Duelo of Minneapolis who lost their son Nick in a tragic car accident. Nick was a senior at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and had been a devoted participant in the choral program there, so his family decided to honor his memory by commissioning a new arrangement of a choral piece. Mack Wilberg was chosen for the commission, and his crystalline arrangement of “Silent Night” was premiered at the 2006 “Christmas at Luther” concert. Wilberg’s shimmering orchestration and hushed choral writing touched the audience deeply during the candle-lit performance—as it did when performed by The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square during their 2006 and 2017 Christmas concerts.
Silent night! Holy night!
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace;
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night! Holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight!
Glories stream from heaven afar;
Heav’nly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born!
Silent night! Holy night!
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face,
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth;
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.
