The young novelist, father of four (soon to be five), needed to quickly earn sufficient funds to meet mounting obligations. He walked the streets of London trying to shape a story and from his observations he created the beloved characters of Scrooge, Bob Crachit, Tiny Tim, and a series of flying ghosts that would catch hold of readers' hearts-for centuries.
