God Bless Us, Every One! The Story Behind A Christmas Carol
Christmas, 1843, the hottest item on the shelves in England was a little book entitled A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The young novelist, father of four (soon to be five), needed to quickly earn sufficient funds to meet mounting obligations. He walked the streets of London trying to shape a story and from his observations he created the beloved characters of Scrooge, Bob Crachit, Tiny Tim, and a series of flying ghosts that would catch hold of readers' hearts-for centuries.
We know Dickens's tale from years of telling, retelling, reading and rereading the Christmas classic, but are we familiar with how the story really came to be? How Dickens's most famous work helped him discover the true spirit of Christmas for himself?
God Bless Us, Every One! The Story Behind A Christmas Carol unfolds Dickens's own story in a beautifully illustrated volume, a must for every Christmas gift list. The book is the seventh in a series of Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas books. It uniquely captures that yuletide wisdom we ascribe to Dickens and his era. Famed Welsh actor John Rhys-Davies presented the account to an audience of 80,000 in 2013. Now you can read it and watch footage from the event on a DVD included with God Bless Us, Every One! You'll delight as the Ghost of Christmas Present soars over the Conference Center audience with an excited Charles Dickens hanging on for dear life.
With illustrations by Brandon Dorman, the text will engage readers of all ages. For more information about God Bless Us, Every One! The Story Behind A Christmas Carol visit mormontabernaclechoir.org/shop/books.
