Talk about hitting a home run! On July 3, 2015, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir took the field at Yankee Stadium prior to the first pitch to sing “Cohan’s Big Three” (a patriotic medley) and “The Star Spangled Banner.” This performance marked the first time the Choir performs at the Stadium.

Although the Choir may not have sung in Yankee Stadium, the list of sporting events where it has performed isn’t too shabby. In 2001, the Choir performed a pre-game 9/11 tribute at the Delta Center (later renamed Energy Solutions Arena), which is home to the Utah Jazz. They performed “God Bless America” and “The Star Spangled Banner,” leaving players, coaches, and audiences moved. The Choir also performed the national anthem at another Utah Jazz game in October 2009.

Perhaps the biggest sporting event the Choir has ever taken part in occurred in 2002, when the Olympic Winter Games were hosted in Salt lake City, Utah. The Choir performed “The Star Spangled Banner” during the opening ceremonies and also joined with Sting and Yo Yo Ma to perform Sting’s song “Fragile.” Click here to see a clip.

Here are videos of the Choir performing “Cohan’s Big Three” and “The Star Spangled Banner.”
