Messiah Concert Tickets Available February 23rd at 7:00 p.m. MST!
To celebrate the birth, life, and resurrection of Jesus Christ during this 2016 Easter season, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will present Handel’s beloved oratorio Messiah in its entirety. The concerts will be held on Thursday, March 24 and Good Friday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Tickets for the highly acclaimed 2014 Messiah concert were distributed in just over seven minutes. This year, to provide the most opportunities for concert seating, our performances will be heard in three locations: the live concert in the Salt Lake Tabernacle; a premium simulcast in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building Legacy Theatre and a closed-circuit simulcast in the Conference Center Theatre. Tickets will be distributed for all three locations on a first-come, first-served basis on Tuesday evening, February 23, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. MST exclusively through lds.org/events. For those unable to get tickets, we are pleased to announce that the concert will also be shown on a live stream on our website (motab.org/messiah) on Friday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. MDT. The live stream will be available for ten days on the Choir website to accommodate time zones and schedules.
In addition to the concert this year, we are inviting people around the world to celebrate Easter with us by organizing a Messiah Sing event using the live-streamed concert to join with their community, church, and music groups to sing Messiah with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. We’ll provide instructions and pdfs of the lyrics and other materials to make this easy for you! What a wonderful way to celebrate with your friends and family.
On March 4, 2016, the newest releases of the Choir and Orchestra, two versions of Handel’s Messiah: the Complete Oratorio on 2 CDs with a bonus DVD, and a 60-minute Highlights CD, will be available.
Finally, don’t forget to upload your video singing your part of Handel’s “Hallelujah” chorus to join our virtual choir. “How to” information is found on virtualchoir.mormon.org. You have until March 1 to upload your videos.
