Messiah FAQ | Mormon Tabernacle Choir

For the first time in 10 years the full Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will present the Easter concert, and perhaps for the first time ever the Choir will publicly performMessiah in its entirety. The concerts will coincide with Good Friday on Friday, April 18, and Saturday, April 19, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in the Tabernacle with Mack Wilberg, music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, conducting the event. Below are answers to frequently asked questions about the Choir's Messiah performance. If you have a question you' d like to see added, please comment at the bottom of the page.

Q: Will the Easter concerts be broadcast?

A: The Messiah concert will be streamed live on mormontabernaclechoir.org/messiah beginning at 7:30 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time on Friday, April 18. At the conclusion of the Friday performance, viewers may see the concert on-demand via the Choir’s website and onYouTube.com/MormonTabChoir. The concert will be available for viewing through Monday, April 21, 2014 at 11:59 p.m.

Q: How do I get tickets to the Easter concerts?

A: There are two ticket opportunities available: Closed-Circuit Simulcast in the Conference Center Theater and Premium Simulcast in the Legacy Theater in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

Closed-Circuit Simulcast

Video and hi-fidelity audio of the concert will be shown in the Conference Center Theater on both Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19. Tickets for this additional seating will be available on lds.org/events beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18. Patrons will be limited to two tickets per request. 

Premium Simulcast

Patrons will also be able to view the concert video on the large screen with the enhanced acoustics of the Legacy Theater in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building on Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19. Tickets for the Legacy Theatre simulcast will be distributed by random selection to those submitting the ticket request form at motab.org/messiah. Availability is limited to residents of the United States of America and only one entry per household will be permitted. Those selected will receive two tickets for one performance; performance date may be either Friday or Saturday. Participants have until Friday, March 28, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. MDT to submit an entry. Tickets will be mailed to those randomly selected.

Q: If I didn't get tickets to a concert but I'd still like to attend. What do I do?

A: Standby seating may be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The standby line is formed at the flagpole on Temple Square.

Another option for you would be to attend the dress rehearsal of the Easter concert on Thursday, April 17. The rehearsal will begin at 7:00 p.m. and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

In keeping with the Choir's usual Thursday rehearsal tradition, patrons may come and go as they please. If seats are not available at the beginning of the rehearsal, try back later in the evening. The running time of the performance is 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Q: Will a recording of the Choir's performance of Messiah be available as a download or CD?

A: Yes, the Choir is working on a full recording of Messiah during 2014. The album will be released in 2015. Check back at motab.org/messiah for additional updates and pre-order offers for the CD.
