Christmas Is Coming: New CD/DVD and Concert Tickets

Planning for Christmas happens all year long for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir! We have made last year’s concerts into CDs and DVDs as well as an illustrated book to be released in October. And we are preparing the PBS and BYUtv concert broadcasts for airing in December. And we are making plans for the 2018 Christmas concerts with wonderful guest artists and all that makes each Christmas concert so memorable.

Christmas Products to Be Released!

In 2017, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Orchestra at Temple Square, and Bells on Temple Square joined with Broadway star Sutton Foster and world-renowned English actor Hugh Bonneville to celebrate Christmas. With singers, instrumentalists, and dancers drawn from the local community and festive flourishes from the Gabriel Trumpet Ensemble throughout the program, these concerts were a visual and musical spectacle, thrilling the combined capacity audience of over 60,000 in the Conference Center at Temple Square.

The full 2017 concert will be released on DVD and CD, each entitled A Merry Little Christmas. Also, the moving story of the Spafford family as narrated by Hugh Bonneville in the 2017 concert will be available as a beautifully illustrated book called It Is Well with My Soul. These will be wonderful additions for Christmas celebrations in every home.

  • Watch the weekly e-newsletter Choir Notes for information about preorders and for release dates in early October.

2018 Christmas Concert Dates: December 13—15!

This time of the year many Choir fans start asking about Christmas ticket availability and the guest artist announcement. This year, the concert will be held Thursday through Saturday, December 13–15, in the Conference Center at Temple Square.

During the summer and fall months, work on music, staging, costumes, choreography, and art design begins in earnest. Ideas move from the conceptual stage to implementation, particularly in long lead-time items like staging and costumes. With a cast of nearly 500 to stage and prepare, there is always something to keep us busy. The audiences will never be disappointed.

  • Tickets will be available after the guest artists are announced.

Tickets for the Christmas concerts will be available in mid-October immediately after the guest artist announcement. Each patron will be able to request up to four tickets. Admission will be open to those age eight and older.

Additional details on the guest artists and tickets will be published in upcoming Choir Notes newsletters.

Christmas Concert Television Broadcasts Featuring Sutton Foster and Hugh Bonneville

Continuing a Christmas tradition, PBS stations across the country will broadcast a one-hour version of the 2017 Christmas concert. Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir broadcasts have consistently been the top-rated holiday program on PBS. For the second year, these special presentations will be co-presented by BYUtv, the groundbreaking high-definition cable television network dedicated to producing “see the good in the world” programming, and WGBH, the largest producer of PBS content for TV and the web.

Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Featuring Sutton Foster and Hugh Bonneville will premiere on PBS on Monday, December 17, 2018. The complete 90-miinute concert will be shown on BYUtv later in December. Broadcast dates will be published on the Choir’s website, or check your local PBS station schedules or for airtimes.
