Costume Designer Susan Memmott Allred Awarded Pioneers of Progress Award
Each year, the Days of '47 trustees gather at a special banquet to honor Utahns “who perpetuate a legacy of industry and integrity.” The honorees are nominated by the public and include individuals whose achievements “commemorate principles of pioneering such as faith, courage, industry, integrity and sacrifice, and whose work benefits present and future generations” (“Six Utahns Receive Pioneers of Progress Awards,” Deseret News, July 22, 2017).
Among this year’s recipients was Susan Memmott Allred, who is the costume designer for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas concerts. Allred’s designs have also been featured in the Mormon Miracle Pageant, and she worked with the Utah Opera from 1978 to 2011. Allred’s Pioneers of Progress Award was in the Historic and Creative Arts category.
