Thomas S. Monson is the 16th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and attended West High School. He joined the United States Naval Reserve in 1945, where he served the country until six months after the end of World War II. After returning home, he attended the University of Utah and graduated with a degree in business management in 1948. Later that same year, he married Frances Beverly Johnson.

President Monson has served in many facets of the Church since becoming a bishop at age 22. After serving as a counselor in his stake presidency, he became a mission president in Canada at age 31 and was called as an Apostle at age 36. In 2008, he became the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, succeeding President Gordon B. Hinckley.

President Monson has a deep love for music and has said, “I love the music of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.” When the Choir launched their YouTube channel in 2012, President Monson, an adviser to the Choir, greeted them and welcomed them to the world of social media. He concluded by saying, “The incredible music of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is now at your fingertips.”
