Want to sing with the Choir?
Fans of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir at many of the concerts on tour have a chance to sing with the Choir as if on stage. The virtual experience is filmed in front of a green screen that when merged with the guests shows the guests and Choir singing “Amazing Grace.”
Ed Payne, executive producer of the Choir’s weekly broadcast, “Music & the Spoken Word,” came up with the idea for “Sing With the Choir.” The technology was tested earlier in the year at the American Choral Directors Association conference and it was a hit. Hundreds lined up to be a part of the Choir and receive a copy for posting on their own social media. Participants have had great fun standing in front of the camera. They described it as “creative” and “a dream come true.”
Payne said, “We want our audience to feel as fully engaged with the Choir as possible and “Sing with the Choir” provides an actual experience.” The Choir is increasingly appealing to a “young and international audience.” Payne said, “We send the link of the video to their email address so they can share it.” And they do.
