About 900 Volunteers Worked At The Conference Center During The Christmas Concert

The 1.4 million square foot Conference Center seats more than 21,000 people. Caring for performers, coordinating staff, and directing guests when the large facility is at full capacity for an event like the Tabernacle Choir’s Christmas Concert is a complicated juggling act. In the video above, Ed Payne, Executive Producer for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, talks with Event Coordinator Jen Davies about the details that go in to an event like the Christmas Concert, including managing more than 900 volunteers.

Listen to the inside scoop on Christmas concerts

Ask Mack Wilberg, music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, how renowned guest artists like Alfie Boe, Bryn Terfel, Deborah Voigt and John Rhys-Davies agree to come as guest artists for Christmas programs.  His answer is simple, “We ask them.”

Welcoming back old friends

What a wonderful time I had this morning as I renewed my friendship with several of the King Singers and met the newer singers I had yet to experience. Each of them were very genuinely pleased to see me as well. Most of the morning was kind of a rush as per normal and yet I was able to experience their joy and love of music. The three newer singers that had not been with the choir before were absolutely carried away in the moment, singing in front of the choir and being in that wonderful space we call the conference center, I watched as the more experienced singers had kind of the expression on their faces that suggested a “I told you that you would be very surprised by how you feel in front of that magnificent Tabernacle Choir”, look.

Choir Christmas Concert Hottest Ticket in Town

The tradition of grand Christmas concerts with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is one of the highlights of the season. This year’s performances—Thursday, December 12 through Sunday, December15—will be like no other with singing, dancing, hand bell ringing and blockbuster guest artists, American soprano Deborah Voigt and British actor John Rhys-Davies.
