September 2021 marks twenty years since the devastating tragedy occurred. The compassionate stories of people who willingly chose to help others in need even if they were strangers—on that day, and the days following the tragedy—continue to remind us of the goodness that connects all of us and of what happens when we reach out to help each other.

For the entire world in September of 2001, rising above the terrible tragedy of 9/11 meant coming together. The experience of coming together is a legacy our rising generations can’t afford to be without and that the current generation is blessed to share with them.

The special “9/11 | COMING TOGETHER” will be streamed on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 8:46 a.m. MDT, the symbolic time of the first plane crash into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. An encore airing of the special will take place on Sunday, September 12, at 9:30 a.m. MDT on the Choir’s weekly Music & the Spoken Word broadcast.

Award winning journalist Jane Clayson Johnson, known for her work at CBS News, ABC News, and NPR will narrate and host the program filmed in various locations in New York City.  In 2001 Johnson and her co-anchoir Bryan Gumble were in New York City anchoring the morning program on CBS News as the tragic events unfolded on 9/11.

Interwoven with music and narration will be interviews with people throughout the United States and the world, speaking in their own languages, as they remember the impact of 9/11. Everywhere in the world, people united during this difficult time with aid, compassion, understanding, and tolerance for each other.

This special musical program of remembrance includes uplifting and inspiring music selections gathered from the Choir and Orchestra’s previous broadcasts and concerts. Mack Wilberg, music director for The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, said, “Music is an integral part of this commemoration because it can touch the human heart in a unique and personal way. We hope listeners of this special feel peace, gratitude, love, and closer to the divine.”

Featured music will include “Wayfaring Stranger,” “Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep,” “Angels Among Us” (featuring Broadway singer Kristin Chenoweth), “You Raise Me Up,” “One Person,” “Peace Like a River,” and “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.”
