The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square is pleased to present this evening’s concert, featuring Lynn Trapp as part of the third season of the Tabernacle Organ Virtuoso Performance Series. This series started in May 2022 and is designed to showcase renowned organists from around the globe playing one of the world’s most famous and iconic pipe organs.

Dr. Lynn Trapp enjoys a career as concert organist, conductor, composer, pianist, and liturgist. Since 2015 he has served as Director of Liturgy & Music at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Baltimore, MD where he oversees the liturgical minister program, is choirmaster and organist/pianist, leads a professional scholar singer program and concert series. There he recently led the design and installation of a large new pipe organ built by Peragallo Pipe Organ Co.Prior to this appointment he served St. Olaf Church in downtown Minneapolis for twenty years. He is an active organ recitalist in the U.S. and Europe, and has more than 100 organ, choral and instrumental compositions held by several major publishers.Since 1997, as founder and co-director of the American Pilgrimage Choir he has led performance tours to many European countries and the Holy Land. He is a frequent presenter and recitalist at sacred music and worship conferences.

As a student he was the recipient of many academic awards including the National Presser Scholarship and the outstanding student award of Pi Kappa Lambda honor society. He won first place in the national organ playing competition at First Presbyterian Church of Ottumwa, Iowa (where he returned as judge and recitalist in 2023) and several other midwest competitions. He is the recipient of the Spirit and Truth Award from the University of Notre Dame recognizing his notable work in music and liturgy. He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from two of his alma maters:Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and Perryville High School.

Lynn received the BMus degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where he studied organ with Marianne Webb, then spent a semester of private study with Catharine Crozier in Los Angeles, CA. Awarded a full scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, he studied organ with Craig Cramer and earned the MMus/Liturgy degree, then began doctoral work in organ at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY with Russell Saunders. Lynn completed the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Kansas where he studied organ with James Higdon and Michael Bauer. He presented his doctoral project, The Legacy of André Marchal in recital and lecture at St.-Germain des Pres in Paris, France.
