Lloyd Newell
Announcer for Music & the Spoken Word
Since 1991, Lloyd Newell has been well known as the voice of The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square's weekly inspirational broadcast, Music & the Spoken Word. This historic broadcast—the longest-running continuous radio network broadcast in the world—is heard and seen each week on hundreds of television and radio stations by millions of people around the world.
Newell has addressed audiences in 45 states and more than a dozen countries around the world through his seminars and keynote speaking engagements. As a speaker, trainer, and writer, he has expertise in topics ranging from communication to personal and organizational effectiveness to human relations and leadership. He has conducted training sessions for hundreds of large companies as well as scores of smaller corporations, government organizations, and community and civic groups.
He has anchored CNN Headline News in Atlanta and has been a television news anchorman and news magazine host for local stations in Pennsylvania and Utah. He continues to serve as host and announcer for many local and national programs and events.
He is also the author of several books, including The Divine Connection, May Peace Be With You, and This Day...And Always. He has published numerous articles on historical topics, marriage and family issues, and inspirational and motivational themes.
Newell holds a master's degree in communication and a doctorate in family science and human development from Brigham Young University, where he is currently a faculty member in Religious Education and an associate faculty member in the School of Family Life. He serves as a commissioner for the Utah Governor's Commission on Marriage.
Lloyd and his wife, Karmel, have four children.
