Why are the Tabernacle’s acoustics so famous?

The Tabernacle is so acoustically sensitive that a pin dropped at the pulpit can be heard 170 feet away at the back. Missionaries demonstrate this daily on free Tabernacle tours, dropping a pin and tearing a sheet of paper from the front of the hall.

The demonstration has been performed for many years and is free to attend. Visitors sit at the back while the sounds are made from the front.

It is one of the more memorable things to do at Temple Square, and it costs nothing.
