The Orchestra at Temple Square, now celebrating its 26th year, will present a fall concert in the historic Tabernacle under the direction of associate music director Ryan Murphy. Since its founding in 1999 at the invitation of President Gordon B. Hinckley, the Orchestra has become an integral companion ensemble to The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, enriching its broadcasts, recordings, and live performances with symphonic color and artistry. Like the Choir, the Orchestra is made up of accomplished volunteer musicians who donate their time and talent.

This October’s concert will feature a dynamic program of symphonic masterworks:

  • Overture to Candide – Leonard Bernstein (1918–1990)
  • Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Op. 67 – Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827)
      I. Allegro con brio
      II. Andante con moto
      III. Scherzo: Allegro
      IV. Allegro
  • Raiders March – John Williams (b. 1932)

The Orchestra participates in broadcasts of Music & the Spoken Word, annual Christmas and Pioneer Day celebrations, and concert tours with The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square across the globe, as well as releasing more than 36 recordings with the Choir. Its fall and spring symphonic concerts have become cherished Temple Square traditions, offering audiences the chance to experience orchestral masterworks in the Tabernacle’s iconic acoustic setting.

Join the Orchestra at Temple Square for an evening of thrilling music that spans the brilliance of Bernstein, the drama of Beethoven’s most famous symphony, and the excitement of John Williams’s beloved film score.
