What is the difference between the Choir, the Orchestra, the Bells and the Chorale?
Four ensembles perform at Temple Square. The Tabernacle Choir has about 400 volunteer singers; the Orchestra at Temple Square has 110; the Bells at Temple Square has 32. The Temple Square Chorale is made up of the Choir’s newest members and serves as training.
Chorale singers are already Choir members — it is a training group within the Choir rather than a separate ensemble.
The Bells and the Orchestra hold their own separate auditions.
The Orchestra generally performs alongside the Choir, except during General Conference where stage space is limited. The Bells join Music & the Spoken Word only two or three times a year.
