David Archuleta (2010)
Guest Artist
Singing sensation David Archuleta performed with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in the 2010 Christmas concert.
Archuleta’s tenor vocals and boyish charm brought the combined 80,000 plus audience to its feet at each performance. His performance left no wonder about why he wowed audiences with his second place finish on American Idol in 2008 with 44 percent of the 97 million votes cast.
After learning one of his vocal cords were paralyzed, he declined risky surgery in favor of a long period of vocal rest and training.
A Latter-day Saint, he is the youngest guest artist to perform with the Choir.
Despite having a platinum album and a huge following, Archuleta was shocked when the Choir invited him to perform at Christmas. Raised just miles from the Tabernacle Archuleta had been in the audience as a young boy listening to other luminaries at Choir Christmas programs. Being on stage with the Choir was for him “pure magic.”
Finding early success as the Junior Vocal Champion on the television show Star Search, Archuleta discovered a serious condition that almost left him without a voice. After learning one of his vocal cords were paralyzed, he declined risky surgery in favor of a long period of vocal rest and training. His unique voice stems from this incident and remains strong today.
After his highly successful run on American idol, Achuleta was signed to Jive Records and released the hit single "Crush," which peaked at #2 on the charts. He has released six solo albums, toured the world and appeared on several television shows.
