For any fan of Mack Wilberg or of beautiful music, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square’s newest recording, Tree of Life: The Sacred Music of Mack Wilberg, is a must-have album.

This recording will be released on May 4, but it is available for pre-order now from Deseret Book with a 15% discount. Beginning March 30, on Amazon and iTunes, when you pre-order a digital download of the full album, you will receive immediately a free digital download of the “How Can I Keep from Singing?” track from the album.

Mack Wilberg is known nationally and internationally for his arrangements of choral music, but this album shines a particular light on his talent as a composer. During his tenure as the music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, he has produced numerous recordings of significance to the music community worldwide. Wilberg’s music publisher, Oxford University Press, stated, “Wilberg’s arrangements and compositions, with their grandeur, energy, and charm, inspire performers and audiences everywhere.”

Tree of Life includes two larger Mack Wilberg original choral works. The Prodigal retells the parable of the prodigal son found in the New Testament book of Luke, while A Cloud of Witnesses weaves multiple witnessing stories of Christ’s Resurrection into a tapestry drawing on accounts from all four Gospel writers. In these original compositions, Wilberg has collaborated with David Warner, a longtime associate and author who has penned numerous texts for him. Both of these choral works were premiered in recent years by the Choir and Orchestra—but this will be the premiere recording of each work.

Eight other Mack Wilberg selections are included—five additional new compositions and three hymn arrangements—all previously unrecorded.
