Believe it or not, Christmas is coming! Ring in the season early with brand-new releases from The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
During the 2017 Christmas season, The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square, and Bells on Temple Square joined with Broadway star Sutton Foster and world-renowned English actor Hugh Bonneville to celebrate with special concerts in the Conference Center on Temple Square. The concerts were recorded live and will live forever in these amazing Christmas products, now available for preorder.
This album, A Merry Little Christmas, is everything you’ve ever wanted in a Christmas recording. The songs will take you back to memories of childhood glee with tracks such as “Joy to the World,” “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” and “Sleigh Ride” and will tug at your heartstrings with Mack Wilberg arrangements like “Silent Night,” “It Is Well with My Soul,” and “Angels from the Realms of Glory.”
The DVD for A Merry Little Christmas adds a visually stunning backdrop to the beautiful sounds of the Choir, Orchestra, Bells, and guest artists. It’s a must have for your Christmas DVD collection and includes the story of the beloved hymn “It Is Well with My Soul”—the story of the spirit of Christmas from the Spafford family’s unforgettable journey in 1873. The story is tenderly narrated by Hugh Bonneville with an original Mack Wilberg orchestration.
The DVD also includes guest Sutton Foster singing beautiful numbers like “Sunshine on My Shoulders” by John Denver, “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and “Christmas Time Is Here” from A Charlie Brown Christmas.
The DVD would not be complete without a big organ solo by Tabernacle organist Richard Elliott. Audiences were amazed by a new arrangement of “I Saw Three Ships,” by Elliott and Matt Nickle, which included fancy organ footwork and exciting drumming by three Orchestra at Temple Square percussionists.
After the tragic death of his four daughters, Horatio Spafford turned his grief into an uplifting affirmation of faith by writing the words for what would become the hymn “It Is Well with My Soul.” The lyrics have brought peace and comfort to people around the world for many years, and the hymn has been included in hundreds of hymnals.
