The Bells at Temple Square will soon present their annual spring concert “Bells in Motion” on June 9, 2023, at the Salt Lake Tabernacle. This talented 33-member handbell choir, led by conductor LeAnna Willmore and associate conductor Geoff Anderson, will showcase their versatility on two sets of English handbells, two sets of hand chimes, and two octaves of English handbells.

The Bells at Temple Square was established in 2005, adding a new dimension to the musical tradition of Temple Square. All members of the bell choir, like those of The Tabernacle Choir, Orchestra at Temple Square, and Chorale at Temple Square, are volunteer musicians. The bell choir rehearses every week for various performances, including two yearly concerts that showcase the broad spectrum of the handbell repertoire.

The concert’s repertoire will begin with “Prelude on Herzliebster Jesu,” “How Great Thou Art,” "Be Still My Soul,” and “Rhapsody in B-flat Minor.” The bell choir will also perform “Retrospective,” “Fantasy on Kingsfold,” and “Toccata from Organ Symphony No. 1.” The concert will conclude with several pieces including “What a Wonderful World” and “Dizzy Fingers.” The handbell numbers will be interspersed with organ solos provided by Temple Square organists Joseph Peeples and Linda Margetts.

While tickets for the concert are free, they are required and can be requested beginning Tuesday, May 16, at 10:00 a.m. Patrons may request up to four tickets, and admission is open to those eight years of age and older. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets can be obtained here.

The concert will be streamed live on The Tabernacle Choir’s website and YouTube channel. It will also be available for on-demand viewing after the concert on the Choir’s YouTube channel and the “Watch and Listen” section of the Choir’s website.
