Introducing Guest Conductor Anton Armstrong
Anton Armstong is no stranger to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. In 2005, the St. Olaf Choir, which he conducts, shared the stage with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir at the Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles, California, for the national conference of the America Choral Directors Association. Armstrong is also a professor of music at St. Olaf College, where he serves as conductor.
In his youth, Armstrong joined the American Boychoir in Princeton, New Jersey, and said of his involvement, “That experience lit my fire for choral singing.” When Armstrong’s high school professor convinced him to hear the St. Olaf Choir at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, he was impressed but said he would never go to school in Minnesota. He said, “I never thought I’d quite have the courage to join the choir, let alone lead it.”
Armstrong will join the Mormon Tabernacle Choir as a guest conductor for the April 27, 2014, Music & the Spoken Word broadcast.
