Apply NOW to sing as a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
Applications to join the Mormon Tabernacle Choir open July 1 and close August 15. The Choir leadership will be auditioning for all positions.
The audition process is rigorous, stretching over 6 months. The first step is submitting an unaccompanied recording of a song selected by Mack Wilberg, music director. The second stage is a musical skills test that measures musical ability and aptitude. Applicants with an acceptable test score then advance to the third stage, where they perform a hymn of their choice, sight-read a piece of music, and test their vocal range in person before the music director and associate music director.
Those interested in applying must be active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, be recommended by their bishops, and live within 100 miles of Temple Square in Salt Lake City. Applicants must be between 25 and 55 years of age. Tenure in the Choir is 20 years or until age 60, whichever comes first.
The final step is to sing with the Temple Square Chorale for four months during which applicants attend music-training classes as well as prepare and perform a concert. If successfully completed, they become members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
