FAQ for The Tabernacle Choir and Azamara Charity Cruises
This is a unique charitable event. How did it come about?
The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square had planned a concert tour to the Nordic countries which would have used an Azamara cruise ship for the Choir’s travel and accommodations. Complications from the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the Choir from completing its tour preparations in time which resulted in the cancellation of the tour in February 2022. Due to the shortness of time remaining prior to the previously planned departure, the Choir and Azamara have collaborated in this unique way to make other arrangements for the use of the ship to benefit charities serving around the world.
Why have Azamara and The Tabernacle Choir chosen to collaborate?
The same reasons that led The Tabernacle Choir and Azamara to work together on the now-cancelled tour have made this charitable collaboration a great opportunity for both. The Choir’s charitable mission to lift and inspire people of all cultures through music aligns well with Azamara’s mission to connect travelers with people, cultures, and destinations around the world. Both entities are completely aligned on providing charitable opportunities to directly support people and places who are in need globally.
Has either group collaborated like this before?
Although this is the first collaboration between the Choir and Azamara, both groups have been involved in charitable activities previously. The Choir has a long history of charitable work through its musical endeavors and Azamara’s goal of connecting people with the cultures and destinations around the world has led them to other previous charity work.
Tell me more about the charities you are collaborating with and what you hope will be achieved?
The Choir identified these charities due to their commitment to providing lifesaving aid to those being displaced by ongoing global conflict, as well as those affected by poverty and natural disasters around the world.
Azamara designed the two cruise opportunities and will provide the same wonderful hospitality that they are known for in the travel industry.
The Choir will donate 100% of the posted sales price (excluding any fees and commissions*) in equal parts to these three well-respected charitable organizations:
CARE: an international humanitarian organization dedicated to fighting global poverty, achieving social justice, and fighting for the equality of women and girls around the world,
International Rescue Committee: an organization that works in more than 40 countries and over 20 U.S. cities to help those affected by conflict and natural disasters to survive, recover, and rebuild their lives, and
American Red Cross: an organization providing international humanitarian aid and support to communities in crises around the world.
How were the charities selected who will benefit from the charity cruises?
We are thrilled to support such well-respected charities as CARE, the International Rescue Committee, and the American Red Cross. They were chosen in part due to their commitment to providing lifesaving aid to those displaced by ongoing global conflict, as well as those affected by poverty and natural disasters around the world.
What are some examples of the global efforts that these charities will be contributing to?
CARE is an international humanitarian organization dedicated to fighting global poverty, achieving social justice, and fighting for the equality of women and girls around the world. The International Rescue Committee is an organization that works in more than 40 countries and over 20 U.S. cities to help those affected by war, conflict and natural disasters to survive, recover and rebuild their lives. The American Red Cross is an organization providing international humanitarian aid and support to communities in crises around the world. The donation from the charity cruises will help support the ongoing relief efforts of the three well-respected charities. In the face of major humanitarian emergencies like the drought in Africa, the conflict in Ukraine and record numbers of people displaced worldwide, this assistance will provide critical relief when people need it most.
How exactly will the charitable donation work? How much of a booking will actually go to charity? Is any or all of a booking tax deductible?
Travelers wishing to cruise in support of these charities can go to Azamara’s website (azamara.com/charitycruises) to book their cruise, either a 7-day, a 5-day, or a combined 12-day Azamara Baltic cruise on the Azamara Pursuit. Azamara will donate to The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square the posted sales price (less credit card fees, and for certain transactions, up to 25% for travel agent commissions. Taxes and port fees are not included in the posted sales price). The Choir will distribute 100% of the proceeds received from Azamara, in equal parts, to the American Red Cross, CARE, and the International Rescue Committee. Azamara will provide its well-known immersive cruising experience which guests who book these sailings will enjoy, especially knowing that they are contributing to worthy global causes. No portion of the sales price is tax deductible.
What are the specific dates and ports for the cruises?
The 7-day cruise runs from Friday, June 17 to Friday, June 24. It departs from Stockholm, Sweden with stops in Finland, Poland, Germany, and Denmark. Guests who book this voyage will have the unique experience of spending the summer solstice at sea aboard the Azamara Pursuit. The 5-day cruise runs from Friday, June 24 to Wednesday, June 29. Why should travelers book these sailings?

Can guests attend both charity sailings?

I can’t make the cruise, but I would like to donate to this charitable event. How can I do that?
Click here to go The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square page at Philanthropies to make a donation. 100% of donations made to the Choir at that site from April 19, 2022 through June 17, 2022 will be distributed by the Choir, in equal parts, to the American Red Cross, CARE, and the International Rescue Committee. These donations are 100% tax-deductible.
Will members of The Tabernacle Choir be in attendance on both sailings?
No, The Tabernacle Choir will not be in attendance on both sailings. The cancellation of the Choir’s long-planned Nordic tour using the Azamara cruise ship will now make it possible for worldwide travelers with compassionate desires to help victims of conflicts, famine, and disease to travel with Azamara through this remarkable charitable opportunity.
Does The Tabernacle Choir have plans to continue this program?
The Choir has been pleased to work closely with Azamara to create this charitable cruise opportunity. Although it can’t predict when its touring plans will present the Choir with another opportunity like the present one, based on the current experience, it is something to consider in the future. The Choir and Azamara are both enormously grateful to be able to assist CARE, the International Rescue Committee and the American Red Cross in bringing much needed aid to those suffering worldwide.
