Broadway Star Laura Osnes and the Choir Sing “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz
In 2015, Broadway leading lady Laura Osnes graced the Conference Center stage for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s annual Pioneer Day concerts. The overwhelmingly positive response to her performance led to her return a mere five months later for the Christmas concerts. The concerts also featured British actor Martin Jarvis as the narrator and four Metropolitan Opera soloists.
During her first appearance at the Pioneer Day concerts, Osnes performed the Broadway and film classics “If I Loved You,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “All the Things You Are,” and “Get Happy.” But those who attended the Music & the Spoken Word broadcast on the Sunday following the concerts were treated to a surprise—Osnes and the Choir performed a beautiful rendition of “Over the Rainbow,” the Academy Award–winning song from the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.
Osnes will be starring in a new musical, The Bandstand, opening on Broadway in 2016. See her guest artist page here for more information and behind-the-scenes interviews.
