Music & the Spoken Word in over 50 languages!

For more than 86 years, nearly the lifetime of radio, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir has presented a weekly program, Music & the Spoken Word, which provides music and messages of peace, love, hope, and inspiration to audiences around the world. This past Sunday, March 27, the Choir marked their 4,515th broadcast, an achievement unsurpassed by any other program.

The first broadcast of Music & the Spoken Word on July 15, 1929, was transmitted using just one microphone to 30 radio stations. Over the years, more and more radio stations joined them.  Decades later, the Choir’s audience increased when television was added to radio broadcasts. . As technology developed, satellite and cable transmissions were added to the broadcast. With each new addition, Music & the Spoken Word reached many more appreciative listeners. In October 2012, the Choir launched its own YouTube channel providing another means of reaching people throughout the entire world.  The weekly broadcast of Music & the Spoken Word is now live-streamed on the Choir’s website and on its YouTube channel.

Another Milestone for Music & the Spoken Word

Twice each year the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs and records their weekly broadcast program immediately prior to the Sunday morning general conference session of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That broadcast is translated into over 50 languages and, beginning with the October 4, 2015 Conference, is now posted in all those languages on the Choir’s website and YouTube page.  Translations for the April 3, 2016 Sunday General Conference Music & the Spoken Word broadcast, and all future Conference broadcasts, will be posted when language translation is completed.
