The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will release their newest music CD, Let Us All Press On: Hymns of Praise and Inspiration on Friday, March 8, 2019, with music that will appeal to people of all faiths and traditions.

One of most requested types of music from the Choir and Orchestra, hymns are the music of the people—music sung as a congregation in Christian worship services. Hymns are able to powerfully carry their messages of Jesus Christ to the soul of the listener and reinforce messages of faith, belief, solace, hope, and encouragement for the singers and audience. Hymns are both sermons and testimonies—community manifestations of faith when performed as a congregation, and private comforts when recalled and pondered within the heart.

The musical settings for this collection of hymns are joyful, contemplative, optimistic, thoughtful, and stirring. They cover a range of gospel themes and modes of expression, including a new recording of a hymn with text written by current Church President Russell M. Nelson, “Our Prayer to Thee.” It was sung by the Choir during the October 2018 general conference, but this new recording features a full accompaniment with the Orchestra.

Significantly, nearly half of the hymns included on this recording were originally written for children and youth, only later finding their way into the musical usage for congregational worship. It is the simplicity of these hymns—their accessibility to all, both young and old—that make them such memorable declarations of faith.
